I’ve been reading this book, The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, written by Jennifer 8. Lee, for my foods class, and lately it has been making me rework my perception of Chinese food and culture.  A lot of what is in this book are parts of me, and in many ways, this book is just reiterating things that I already know about Chinese-American cuisine and culture.  What this book manages to do, however, is inform me of Chinese-American history and the transformation of the Chinese-American food industry that I never could have imagined.  But mostly, this book has made me miss Chinese food, both the “authentic” and the Americanized kind.
I’m really hungry right now.

Truth is: I cringe at the thought of all my old blog posts.  I write when I’m foolishly emotional, when I should actually be sleeping instead of being all mopey or pretentiously “philosophical”.
I’m afraid of knowing who actually reads my tumblr posts, lest they be people who fall outside of my circle of tumblr followers.  In any case, please take my words with a grain of salt.  Most of the time, I’m just being pathetically emotional.

Waiting for that period in my life where I can wake up feeling filled to the brim with joy and disbelief at how fantastically wonderful my life is, where I jump out of bed exclaiming, “YES! I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW GREAT MY LIFE IS! HOW TRULY LUCKY I HAVE BEEN!”
Being young, there is much to be desired in life. The sense of completeness I seek is one to be encountered some day in the future.  I can feel that sensation in my veins, but those days have yet to arrive.

Art of the Toilet Paper Roll by JUNIOR FRITZ JACQUET
French artist Junior Fritz Jacquet has been fascinated by paper since a very young age. Among various other paper and cardboard creations, he transforms plain toilet paper rolls into remarkable miniature masks. His technique is inspired by origami, in that it uses a single piece and folds it into a shape, but has a unique smoothness that deviates from the sharpness and jagged edges of origami, creating shapes that are astonishingly human. The masks are sculpted by hand, then coated with shellac and different pigments. A testament to the power of taking something incredibly simple and transforming it into something impressively expressive, each piece exudes a complexity of human emotion conveyed in just a few brilliantly orchestrated folds.
